Nail salon robbery suspects in custody

OAKLAND, CA

Oakland police still have a couple of suspects in custody that they're questioning. They caught them within hours after a holdup on Tuesday and want to find out if they're connected to an ongoing string of takeover robberies in the city and elsewhere around the East Bay.

Two masked men, at least one of them armed with a gun, walked into the Bancroft Avenue salon Tuesday night around 6:30 pm. The men threatened the employees and one customer, took their money and then ran out and drove off in a car.

Shortly after the holdup, police pulled over a car in Oakland, and took two men into custody for questioning in connection to the nail salon robbery.

This is just one in a long series of armed business robberies in the Bay Area. There have been 18, in the past seven weeks, most in Oakland, but also Vallejo, El Cerrito, Hayward, Daly City and San Jose.

Investigators are looking at whether the suspects from the nail salon robbery have a tie to any of the other ones. Since the investigation is still ongoing, police are giving very few details about the two men they arrested. They want to see if witnesses from Tuesday night's robbery can identify them first.
