The Jack London Aquatic Center offers an after school girls rowing club for inner city children. In Oakland, 75% of youth don't know how to swim. This program is extremely beneficial because it teaches kids to swim before they begin rowing and promotes team building. Most sports scholarships given to young women are in team rowing, which is becoming even more popular after the US Olympic Women's Rowing Team won the Gold in Beijing.
