Janitor charged with assaulting principal

OAKLAND, CA

Rogers said Floyd O'Neal, 31, will be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court on Friday in connection with a June 24 attack on Manzanita Community School Principal Eyana Spencer.

The district attorney's office alleges that O'Neal attacked Spencer for disciplining him for poor work performance. During the attack, Spencer was struck with a pistol.

Rogers said O'Neal was arrested previously for a separate incident on July 5 for which he's charged with six felony counts, including weapons charges and evading police.

Authorities say the gun O'Neal allegedly used to attack Spencer was seized from him on July 5, when California Highway Patrol officers stopped him at East 33rd Street and Park Boulevard, across the street from Oakland High School.

Rogers said Spencer suffered injuries to her face that required 10 stitches, and also was heavily bruised on her back.
