The city is encouraging interested parties to visit redwoodcity.org/10gallon to select water-saving actions they'll pledge to do, with the purpose of getting in the habit of using less water daily.
The Web site provides conservation measures such as shortening showers by two minutes, which saves 5 gallons of water, and watering lawns only before 6 a.m. or after 8 p.m., which saves up to 20 gallons, according to the city.
Everyone who pledges to save at least 10 gallons a day has the opportunity to print out a pledge certificate to their Web site.
The city is issuing the challenge as a reaction to a statewide drought declared last summer, which it says is the first time California has declared a drought since the period from 1987 to 1992.
