Homeless women receive makeovers

SANTA CLARA, CA

The makeovers will be given at the salon, The Place 2 B Hair Studio in Santa Clara. The women will also receive baskets of clothing, makeup and coffee, all donated by local businesses.

Tonight they will dine at Tony and Alba's Italian restaurant and be treated to comedy entertainment sponsored by San Jose Improv.

"If we help make these women feel a little better by pampering them and creating an environment where they can relax, laugh and enjoy themselves, they might just feel more motivated about their situation and their future," salon owner Janet Phifer said.

The event was organized by the salon through InnVision, which provides housing and supportive services for homeless and at-risk residents of Silicon Valley.

According to the 2007 Homelessness Census and Survey, approximately 1 percent of Santa Clara County residents are homeless.
