Plans approved for UCSF Mission Bay hospital

SAN FRANCISCO

The Mission Bay hospital, scheduled to open in 2014, will complement UCSF's Parnassus Heights and Mount Zion hospitals with a 289-bed facility offering services to children and families, women and cancer patients.

The UC Board of Regents gave approval Thursday to the project's design, budget and environmental certification.

Structural plans for the proposed facility still have to be presented to the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development at the end of the year, according to the university.

If given final approval, construction is slated to begin next year.
