An Amtrak train bound for Southern California was delayed in Oakland this morning when a victim of an apparent suicide was discovered on board.

Oakland police responded to a call from Amtrak at 10:01 a.m. after train personnel discovered a man with a gunshot wound to the head on the train.

The Coast Starlight train was on its daily route from Seattle to Los Angeles, police said.

The train was held at Oakland-Jack London Square station until 12:15 p.m., Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.
