Walnut Creek Safeway robbed

WALNUT CREEK, CA

The robbery was reported at about 4:10 a.m. at the Safeway store at 600 S. Broadway, according to police.

The suspect entered the store, selected an item and approached the cash register, police said. The suspect then pointed a handgun at a store employee and demanded money.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store on foot, according to police. The suspect remains outstanding after an extensive search by officers did not result in his arrest.

No injuries were reported during the robbery.

The suspect is described by police as a white man in his late 30s to early 40s with a goatee. He was wearing a white hat and green sweatshirt and is armed with a handgun, police said.
