The California Department of Transportation is closing portions of U.S. Highway 101 near San Rafael tonight and Saturday night for roadwork.

The highway will be closed just south of the Highway 101/580 interchange to just north of the interchange.

Caltrans crews will lay additional asphalt to raise the height of the highway as it approaches the Cal Hill overpass, Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus said.

The southbound lanes will close today at 11:59 p.m. and the northbound lanes will close at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.

One or two lanes may be closed until 9 a.m. the next day but the full closure will not last longer than 6 a.m., Haus said. Detour signs will be posted prominently along the route.
