Zeppelin to begin passenger flights this week

MOFFETT FIELD, CA

The Airship Ventures Inc. Zepplin NT is the world's largest airship, and one of only three zeppelins currently flying in the world, according to the company.

The airship, manufactured in Germany by Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH, will now call Moffett Field's Hangar Two its home. It will be used for passenger service as well as for future NASA scientific missions.

Starting in November, the airship will also carry passengers from Oakland International Airport and Sonoma County Airport. It is the only such airship in the world being used for passenger service, according to the company.

The zeppelin landed in Moffett Field roughly 75 years after the US Navy's airship Macon landed there on Oct. 15, 1933.
