San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom toured the city's Castro District Saturday to get the vote out against proposition eight which would amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriages.
Newsom spearheaded the battle in California four years ago when he allowed gay couples to wed in his city.
Proposition 8 supporters held prayer services around the state Saturday including one at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.
Thousands held a prayer vigil and fasted in hopes of the measure's passage.
Smaller services were held at churches including one at the Christian Community Church in San Jose.
