Missing teen found safe

SAN FRANCISCO

Around 5:30 p.m., fire officials were notified of a 13-year-old girl missing at Ocean Beach, a dispatcher said. The Coast Guard was notified of the situation and dispatched two helicopters and a small boat to the scene.

A Coast Guard dispatcher said the girl's 16-year-old sister had lost sight of the 13-year-old and began calling out for her. When passersby hear the girl calling out, they attempted to assist.

A third party heard the commotion and called 911, the dispatcher said.

Around 6:30 p.m. it was discovered that the 13-year-old girl had gone home on her own. The situation is not believed to be a hoax but a case of miscommunication between the girls, the Coast Guard dispatcher said.
