Stanford prof. awarded $1M grant

PALO ALTO, CA

Helen Blau, a researcher at the university's School of Medicine, received the $949,608 grant through an institute program that fosters stem cell research by improving technologies and practices in the field, the university reported.

Blau and fellow researchers will use the money in an effort to improve the ability to observe and direct how stem cells grow and change into other cell types, according to the university.

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine was established in 2005 after voters passed Proposition 71, providing $3 billion over 10 years for stem cell research.
