Oakland PD to change officers' shifts

OAKLAND, CA

The shift changes will start in February.

About 60 percent of the department will work Friday through Monday when crime is generally higher.

The move should save Oakland over one million dollars a year in overtime for officers to monitor night clubs and clamp down on street crime. That is because overtime will be reduced for weekend enforcement of sideshows and nightclubs.

The police officers' union agrees with the changes.
