Manuel Velasquez was fatally struck at about 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and Southwood Street, according to Fremont police.
A preliminary police investigation concluded that Velasquez was trying to cross Central Avenue, and after crossing the westbound lanes, he continued into the eastbound lanes, where he was struck by a Toyota Camry traveling east in the left lane of Central Avenue.
Velasquez was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel. The driver of the Toyota, a 54-year-old Fremont man, was not injured in the crash, police said. Alcohol and drugs don't appear to be a factor.
