San Jose police are trying to identify a hit-and-run driver who struck a 9-year-old boy and his father on their walk to school Monday morning, police Sgt. Mike Sullivan said.

The father and son were walking in a crosswalk at Story Road and Adrian Way on their way to Mildred K. Goss Elementary School when they were struck around 8 a.m., Sullivan said.

The car that hit them was a silver or gray Nissan Sentra that was traveling east on Story Road. The father and son were crossing on a green light, Sullivan said.

Following the collision, the car continued east on Story Road.

The boy suffered a head injury and was knocked unconscious, and the father sustained an injury to his leg. The boy is considered in serious condition but is expected to survive.
