Stanford withdraws mall expansion plans

Stanford University withdrew its application to expand the Stanford Shopping Center.

The school submitted plans two years ago to add more retail space, and build a new hotel.

But they now say the city planning process has distracted them from upgrading Stanford Hospital, and Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, just down the street.

The hospitals are already a year behind in meeting new state seismic standards.
