Small 3.1 quake rattles Gilroy area

The earthquake, which had a depth of about 2 miles, struck at 3:32 p.m. about 5 miles west-southwest of Gilroy, according to the USGS.

The epicenter was also about 7 miles east of Corralitos and about 18 miles northwest of Hollister, the USGS reported.

A second quake with a preliminary magnitude of 1.6 struck in the same general area at 4:08 p.m., according to the USGS.
