Raymond Campos was arrested Thursday in Livermore and taken to the Monterey County Jail.
At about 7:55 p.m. on April 10, a Monterey County sheriff's deputy and a Salinas police officer, who are assigned to the Monterey County Joint Gang Task Force, tried to contact Campos in the parking lot of 57 Natividad Road in Salinas.
When the officers approached Campos, the known gang member allegedly accelerated his vehicle backward, striking the deputy and knocking him to the ground.
Campos then went forward and Salinas police Officer Jeffrey Alford fired his handgun to protect himself and his partner, who was injured on the ground, according to the Police Department.
Campos allegedly fled in the vehicle, which was located minutes later abandoned in the area of U.S. Highway 101 and Market Street.
The deputy was flown to a Bay Area hospital where he was treated for a broken collarbone and a separated shoulder.
Alford, who has more than five years of service with the city of Salinas, was put on routine administrative leave.
