In an announcement made Tuesday, Mr. Obama announced his nomination of /*Tauscher*/ to serve as the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security in the State Department.
Tauscher is currently representing California's 10th Congressional District. She chairs the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee and the New Democrat Coalition.
Tauscher's office says she will next go before Senate Foreign Relations Committee for confirmation, but until then, she will remain a member of the House of Representatives.
Several California lawmakers have already expressed interest in filling Tauscher's seat once she is confirmed.
