Kathy Li is the director of Consumer Action's San Francisco office and has worked for the nonprofit group for 16 years. She leads CA's effort in producing and distributing over two million free, multilingual consumer educational materials annually through 11,800 community-based organizations nationwide.
Li also oversees Consumer Action's multilingual website, and the daily operation of CA's SF office - from hiring staff to keeping the computers and databases running. She organizes and manages a team of translators to help government and nonprofit agencies serve non-English-speaking consumers by translating guidelines, publications and websites. Prior to that she was the director of the National Consumer Resource Center for eight years and a community outreach organizer for over four years, both at Consumer Action.
Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, Li works closely with the Chinese media and Asian communities throughout California to promote consumer rights. Li was the host/producer of a San Francisco weekly Cantonese radio talk show, "Consumers' Voices", from 1993 to 2003. She has also appeared in many other Asian and mainstream media over the years. Before joining Consumer Action, Li taught English as a foreign language and worked in several public affairs offices. Li holds an M.S. degree in Mass Communications and a B.A. in English.
