Newark city employees take salary cuts

One-hundred and forty Newark city employees have agreed to salary cuts of up to five percent during the next fiscal year.

It covers everyone from firefighters to office workers, but not police.

The city is working on a separate deal for them.

Newark is facing a $3.5 million budget deficit.

The salary cuts will save the city roughly $600,000.
