Police received a call at 8:08 p.m. from a man who said his father had just shot his wife inside their house at 2909 21st St.
When police arrived, they found Marlo Schumacker, 41, in the living room suffering from a gunshot wound to her head.
Her husband, Walter Schumacker, 63, was also in the living room suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, Foisie said.
Another man who had had witnessed the incident was also in the living room. Walter Schumacker's 40-year-old son was outside when the shooting happened, Foisie said.
Walter Schumacker and his wife were both taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where Walter Schumacker died. Marlo Schumacker is expected to survive.
The group had been drinking Tuesday evening, Foisie said. At some point that day they had gone to Wal-Mart and bought an inflatable pool, which they set up in the driveway and then continued drinking.
Shortly before the shooting, Walter and Marlo Schumacker, who had only recently gotten married, started arguing. When she said she was going to leave him, he allegedly turned around and shot her and then shot himself, Foisie said.
