SF tentatively approves cigarette tax

San Francisco's budget committee Monday approved a compromise 20 cent tax on a pack of cigarettes.

The original proposal was 33 cents a pack.

The revenue will be used to recover at least part of the nearly $11 million the city spends removing cigarette butts from streets and sidewalks.

The full board votes on the measure Tuesday.
