The county opened seven charging stations on Thursday in Santa Rosa and they plan to open 200 more in the next couple of years.
The county has a fleet seven plug-in hybrids and needed the chargers anyway.
Instead of keeping them for county use, they decided to make them available to the public.
Drivers can sign up for unlimited charges for $50 per month.
