Crews put out a fire on a hillside at Marion Avenue and Paradise Court on Friday morning. It broke out around 3:45 a.m. and burned almost two acres of dry grass. The flames never threatened any homes.

But this is the third time this week that a brush fire broke out in the middle of the night somewhere in Novato.

"I don't understand the mindset of an individual who wants to do something like that and put their neighbors houses in peril," said Captain Jeff Davis from the Novato Fire Department.

Fire officials point out homeowners clearing weeds and shrubs to create what they call defensible space made it easier for them to do their job.
