W. CoCo school board to vote on contract

The West Contra Costa school board is set to decide Wednesday night whether to force teachers to accept a new contract.

That would set the stage for a possible teachers' strike this fall. The district faces a multi-million-dollar deficit. Year-long contract negotiations with the teachers' union have gone nowhere.

The school board could vote to impose a contract that caps health benefits for current employees and retirees, and could increase class sizes to 33 students per teacher.
