Scientists sail to 'Great Pacific Garbage Patch'

The ship is bound for the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch," a field of floating trash twice the size of Texas, located about 1,000 miles west of California. Researchers say lots of plastic waste from beaches gathers there.

The group wants to get a better estimate of the garbage patch size in order to study how it affects wildlife and determine the best way to clean it up.
