The board of supervisors gave final approval to the $6.6 billion budget two weeks ago. It voted to close a $437 million deficit.

It includes saving nearly $500,000 by cutting a deputy police chief position and two police commanders. A half million dollars was also cut from funding for the opera, ballet and Conservatory Theater.

Meantime, San Francisco top elected leaders will lose thousands of dollars in pay to help balance the budget, after the city's labor unions agreed to wage concessions earlier this year.

Mayor Newsom's new salary will be a little more than $246,000, that's a pay cut of about $6,000. District Attorney Kamala Harris will be paid $213,000, and each of the eleven members of the board of supervisors will earn $96,000, a $2,300 loss.
