A study in Israel tested about 400 X-ray machines and found that nearly one-third had organisms called drug-resistant gram-negative bacteria. That includes e-coli, which is resistant to medication.
The researchers say better cleaning of the equipment could reduce the potential for spreading infections in hospitals.
The findings of the study are published in the journal of the American College of Chest Physicians.
