Fraud charges against fake Oscar winner

A Pleasanton man who lied to investors when he told them he had won three Oscars for sound design has been charged with cheating them out of more than $3 million.

Forty-six-year-old Brice Carrington is accused of masterminding a scheme in which he promised at least 10 investors double, and even triple returns, on various sound-effects design projects.

He was arraigned Wednesday on five counts of wire fraud and four counts of tax evasion.
