Contra Costa County to make more cuts

Contra Costa County supervisors are planning more layoffs and cuts in health and social service programs. They're blaming Governor Schwarzenegger's line-item vetoes after last month's budget deal.

Officials say they must cut more than $50 million from the county budget that's on top of the $150 million cut since December.

They say 27 social worker jobs could be cut, 100 positions were already slashed in December.

Payments to foster care agencies and group homes will fall 10 percent. And officials say thousands of disabled adults could lose in-home support services which could mean hundreds of job losses for those private workers.
