SamTrans to vote on cuts, fare increases

Officials say the changes are the most drastic in SamTrans' 33-year history. They are needed to help close the transit agency's $28 million deficit. The agency is looking at plans that include eliminating express service from the Peninsula to San Francisco.

Other proposals being considered include cutting services up to 15 percent and increasing fares that would take effect in February.
