Port officials, the Army Corps of Engineers and environmental groups will announce the final completion of a huge dredging project Friday afternoon.
The channel is now 50 feet deep -- deep enough to be used by the current generation of large cargo ships.
The project dates back to the late 1990's, when the port announced a major improvement effort.
