The officer had responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at 2529 Ninth Ave. at about 10:10 a.m., Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said.

The officer tried to make contact with the car's driver, but the driver struck the officer with the car, causing lower leg injuries, Thomason said.

A second officer then fired at the vehicle, striking the driver, Thomason said.

The officer who was hit by the car and the suspect were each transported to a local hospital and were listed in stable condition, he said.
