Alonzo Stevens is being held at county jail on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

The attack happened at about 10:30 p.m. as the victim, a 21-year-old woman, was walking from the video store to meet her husband in the parking lot at 2890 Delta Fair Blvd.

Stevens, armed with a knife, allegedly approached the victim and knocked her down. During a brief struggle on the ground, Stevens allegedly cut the woman on the neck and took her purse, police said.

The woman's husband came to her aid and chased the robber away, police said. Police searched the area but didn't find the suspect.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, but has since been released.

At about 5 p.m. Friday, officers contacted Stevens in front of the Hospice Thrift Store at 2742 Delta Fair Blvd., in the same shopping center where the attack happened.

During their interaction with Stevens, the officers noticed that he closely resembled the description of the robbery suspect. Witnesses were able to identify Stevens as the man who had attacked the woman and he was arrested, police said.
