Nearly 600 employees at Laguna Honda and San Francisco General Hospitals and at city health clinics recently received lay-off notices.

One union leader says the terminations unfairly hit the city's most vulnerable employees.

"I mean some of these people, some of these women have been working for the city 20 and 25 years and they don't deserve this type of treatment. It is mostly minorities, it is 97 percent minorities and about 77 percent women," said Ruben Garcia from SEIU Local 1021.

The layoffs take effect the day after Thanksgiving.
