U.S. Airways says it plans to add a 5 percent surcharge to all U.S. flights beginning on May 8th. The airline says the fare hike is necessary to protect it against any increase in its costs.
Separately, Delta, Northwest and United say they've bumped the surcharge to $30 to fly on some busy days.
Analysts warn the bargains we saw this year are not likely to be repeated in 2010.
