A Nepalese man has now been recognized as the oldest person ever to scale Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.

Several dignitaries were on hand Monday to celebrate his achievement. He received an official certificate in recognition of his climb from Guinness World Records.

The man scaled the more than 29,000- foot peak in May 2008 at the age of 76. He said he climbed for "world peace."

Before this, a Japanese climber who scaled Mt. Everest at age 71 held the record.
