Brutal Thanksgiving day beating under investigation

SANTA ROSA, CA

Officers were called to a report of a physical fight at a Chevron gas station at 701 Mendocino Ave. at around 2:40 a.m. Thursday morning, according to Santa Rosa police.

Arriving officers found an injured and unconscious man on the ground and several subjects in the area, and two of them - possibly involved - were stopped from trying to flee the scene, police reported.

The unconscious victim, 24-year-old Windsor resident Cory Debari, had apparently been involved in the fight but was continually assaulted after he became unconscious and was on the ground. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries where he remained in a critical care unit on Monday, according to police.

Officers arrested 22-year-old Santa Rosa man Robert Upshall at the scene after determining him to be the prime suspect in the brutal assault, police said. Upshall was booked at Sonoma County jail for battery with serious injury.

Detectives served a warrant at Upshall's home on Monday and recovered physical evidence pertaining to the assault, according to police.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact Santa Rosa police Detective Kohut at (707) 543-3590.
