Vallejo may turn law enforcement over to sheriffs

Vallejo is looking at the possibility of eliminating its police force to help the city emerge from bankruptcy.

The city manager has directed his staff to analyze how much money turning over law enforcement to the Solano County Sheriff's Department would save the city.

Solano County Sheriff Gary Stanton says he'll provide the needed information, but he's not interested in taking over the job of patrolling the city.

Budget cuts have thinned the Vallejo force to 103 officers.
