Man gets one year in jail for stabbing neighbor

SAN JOSE, CA

Charles Rolen, 30, pleaded no contest Feb. 4 to attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the attack on his neighbor, Ernest Andrews, on Aug. 5, 2009, district attorney's spokeswoman Amy Cornell said.

On the night of Aug. 5, a fight broke out between the two men while Rolen was visiting the victim at his home at 16975 Monterey Road. Police said the fight escalated and Rolen pulled out a knife and began stabbing Andrews in the neck and head.

Andrews was taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose and survived.
