SANTA ROSA, CA

Officers responded to the Apple Valley Lane area at about 9 p.m. after a 1969 Chevrolet pickup truck was reported stolen, according to Santa Rosa police.

An officer spotted the truck near the 2800 block and attempted a traffic stop. The driver tried to flee, striking a metal fence in a parking area and swiping two parked cars, police said.

The driver then lost control and crashed into an apartment building at 2817 Apple Valley Lane, police said. He got out of the pickup and ran.

Officers apprehended him several blocks away. He was identified as 20-year-old Santa Rosa resident Jose Toscano.

Toscano was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, felony evading an officer, resisting arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol and was booked into Sonoma County jail.
