Gunnar Sandberg, a 16-year-old junior at Marin Catholic High School, had been in a medically-induced coma at Marin General Hospital for more than two weeks.
He was hit by a line drive off an aluminum bat during a game back on March 11.
His family reports Sandberg breathed on his own for a short time over the weekend and appears to be slowly coming out of the coma.
The Marin County Athletic League has decided to switch to wood bats for the rest of the season.
