A 30-year-old man was briefly stranded on some rocks off the Monterey County coast Tuesday evening after being swept out to sea near Big Sur, officials said.

Three people were pulled out to sea while swimming in the ocean near Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. There were 8-foot swells in the area at the time, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Two of the swimmers were able to get back to shore and called 911. A third was stuck clinging to rocks surrounded by water.

The National Park Service, the Monterey Fire Department and the Coast Guard responded.

A Coast Guard helicopter located the stranded swimmer and hoisted him off the rocks. He was given medical treatment and was said to be in stable condition.
