BART decides not to raise fares

BART is telling riders there will be no fare increases or service cuts to balance the agency's budget.

BART had expected a $14 million deficit.

But that has dropped to $10 million, and the rest will be made up by trimming expenses and eliminating some three-dozen jobs.

BART's general manager says keeping a cap on fares will help the agency attract new riders when the economy improves.
