The triple murder conviction of a local gang member may be in jeopardy because of the San Francisco police crime lab scandal, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Last spring, jurors convicted Dennis Cyrus Jr. of three murders committed in the summer of 2002.

His conviction was based partly on testimony from former crime lab employee Deborah Madden.

Police claim she stole cocaine evidence from the drug lab, though they have not charged her with that. Madden pleaded not guilty Monday to felony drug charges unrelated to the lab scandal.

The accusations have forced the city to drop hundreds of drug cases.
