Man saves six from burning building in Richmond

RICHMOND, CA

The fire began in the garage of a home on 6th Street. Residents there say they could not find the key to open the security bars on the front door.

The man being hailed as a hero, Sylvester Wiggins, just happened to be walking by and heard people screaming for help. He dodged a high-voltage power line dangling near the home and kicked down the door.

"I just started screaming, 'Please Jesus, just get me out of here,' said resident Earline Davis. "I just thought my life was over."

"Well, I think God just put me in the right area. It wasn't her time to go and that's what happened," Wiggins said. "He put me in the right place. I'm glad I was able to help. I'd do it for anybody."

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not need to be hospitalized. No other injuries were reported.
