According to a new poll by Survey USA insurance commissioner Steve Poizner has moved into a statistical tie with former eBay chief executive Meg Whitman.
The poll shows Whitman is leading Poizner 39 percent to 37 percent.
The margin of error is 4.3 points.
In a field poll in March, Whitman had led 63 percent to 14 percent.
Whitman is spending a record amount of money on the race, much of it her own.
