Health officials say one reason so many children are overweight is that few have a nearby place to play and exercise.

A Centers For Disease Control and Prevention report says only about 1-in-5 homes have parks within a half mile and about the same number have a fitness or recreation center within that distance.

The report also finds 1-in-5 high school students get at least one hour of physical activity a day.

The CDC says only 37 states require P.E. for all grades, including California.
